Dramatic Rain Shadow
Posted: December 3rd, 2013
For at least the third time this season, the Olympic Mountains shielded Seattle from significant rainfall. Yesterday’s rain shadow was perhaps the most dramatic, at least when viewed from the ground. Usually protected areas still feature clouds or, at best, filtered sunlight. Yesterday’s shadow provided North Seattle and much of the Kitsap Peninsula with bright blue sky. (The linked photo below was taken atop North Seattle’s Maple Leaf Reservoir Park, looking northwest.)
